App Analytics announces the open beta release of App Analytics
Yes it has been a long time coming and we thank you for all you support along the way. But the day is finally here. We are still rolling out improvements and still have some more coming in the next few days. But we a excited to announce effective immediately App Analytics is in open beta.
Press Release:
For Immediate Release: App Analytics announces the open beta release of App Analytics
Location: http://www.appanalyticshq.com/
Date: 28th April 2010
App Analytics is the leading native Adobe AIR tracking & reporting solution for applications developed using Adobe’s AIR Development platform. With it’s simple integration, clean interface & powerfully rich insights App Analytics is now moving from closed Alpha testing into Open Beta testing.
App Analytics has been in invite only testing by over 200 top Adobe AIR developers, the move to an open beta allows anyone to register and begin to use App Analytics to monitor the usage of their Adobe AIR application. Closed testing of App Analytics over the past 6 months has seen the solution mature from a simple idea to a scalable robust solution tracking over 5 million items. Paul Sanderson, founder of App Analytics, said “We have learned a lot from the initial launch of App Analytics. We have steadily tired to improve App Analytics with the help of our users, we are very proud of the result” he also went onto say “unlike other analytics systems out there App Analytics has been built from the ground up with application tracking specifically in mind. So there features and reports in App Analytics that you cant get from a web analytics package”
Born out of frustration at the lack of reliable, robust tracking options for Adobe AIR applications, App Analytics is developed by a team of developers and product managers, for developers and product managers. This means all features of App Analytics are simple, quick and allow users to quickly and easily implement and start reporting on their Adobe AIR applications. “When we were developing App Analytics we asked ourselves what we wanted for our own AIR applications, what do we want to know about the App & the users interactions. The process then is very simple, if we wanted or needed it we built it into App Analytics”.
Adhering to an agile and rapid development methodology, App Analytics will continue to mature as more users interact with App Analytics, as requirements grow, the development team will continue to refine, polish and push the boundaries of Adobe AIR tracking and measuring. Beta users can expect to see new features rolled out on a regular basis.

Yay… is all I can say. I am so excited about the upcoming open beta, it is one huge step in the right direction. But before this happens in a few weeks I would like to take some time out to talk to you about some changes that will be taking place in Air Analytics.
- Tracks Limit: A track limit per month will be introduced, this is just to make sure that we can keep the data sizes manageable while we are testing out the systems and making changes to them. The limit only applies to data that you decide to track in your application, installs, usages, and other system related data will not count towards your monthly limit. The track limit will be of a substantial size and will still enable you to gain insight into you application, this is an analytics package after all.
- Application Limit: We will be limiting each account to only have 2 applications per account, again this is to ensure that we provide the best service while we are in the beginning phases of the open beta. These limits will be loosened as we head towards the end of the beta.
- Software as a service: We are going to have a crack at the software a a service approach to running Air Analytics in beta. As you all know Air Analytics is a small start up with huge ambitions and it would seem that you guys like what we are doing. So with that in mind we need to get Air Analytics to cash flow neutral position in terms of hosting and bandwidth costs. So what we are proposing is that there will be selling some select advertising spots on Air Analytics, just to cover the hosting costs. Why do such a crazy thing? Well it save us from having to charge you to use Air Analytics which we think is a bit unfair while we are in a beta, but on the other hand we need to help minimise the hosting bill.
I(Paul) wont be taking any money from the possible advertising, I’m happy to do this for free for the being. So any money made over that of the hosting cost will be plowed back into Air Analytics
The advertising will also be limited to only a few selected positions throughout the site. - Investors: Air Analytics will be actively looking for venture capital investors to help take Air Analytics to the next level. When we successfully receive investment we will look at removing the “software as a service” approach. If you or you know someone/company who maybe interested please get them to contact us.
We would love to hear you opinions on the points above, if you like them, if they “grind your gears”. Please lets us know as you guys are the most important, without you Air Analytics is nothing.

Imagine having a tool that can let other uses know how popular your app is just like feedburner counters. Well this sweet feature is now part of Air Analytics. Let me introduce you to Air Counters
Air Counters is cool way to promote your application. It is a dynamic graphic that always displays your applications current installs, usage or number of users. Its a great way to show how popular your application is.
This feature is all part and parcel of Air Analytics. So once you start tracking you can use these counters when and wherever you like.
We are currently working on a few more widget types that we think you will like. But if you have an idea for one let us know as we are always open to new ideas.

So Air Analytics is on the way soon, and you find your self wondering how will I be able to implement the tracking into my application.
Well my friend you are reading the right post. Let me take some time out of the dev schedule to tell you how easy it is to implement Air Analytics tracking in your app. In a future post I will tell you what stats and info you can expect to see.
Over the past 4 months we have been going out of our way to build an application analytics solution that is user/developer friendly as possible while still keeping the app streamline and the tracking unobtrusive to the user. We understand that AIR applications can take many forms, functions, shape and sizes, so have we set about developing a system that is totally flexible and can mould to your application not the other way round.
Implementation
To start the tracking you only need import the class to add the following line of code:
AirAnalytics.start(“api_key”, “app_ID”);
and Air Analytics is ready to roll.
Now to track an item, pageview or click all you do is call:
AirAnalytics.track(“Action”, “Type”);
Action = the item that was tracked eg “page/home” or “mainNav/homeBtn” this can be anything that you wish to define.
Type = the type of action it is E.G if it is a page view use the type “page” or you can even create you own type and add it to the system all in the control panel.
For example if you have a twitter app why not add a type “tweet” and every time and successful tweet is sent tack it. This way you will be able to see how may tweets you app is sending.
We have started you off with 4 common types that we think people will generally use in every application they are
- “page” for page view
- “click” for any button click you want to track
- “url” for those links to external URLs
- “error” Yes… for those unwanted errors… now you can see how many and when the appear
Don’t worry about loosing any tracks while the app is running offline. Air Analytics manages the tracking offline as well making it a complete tracking solution for you application.
Like we mentioned before we will be going into a private beta so if you are interested please drop us a line or leave a comment here somewhere with your details.
Thanks Paul
Read MoreAir Analytics is on the way
We are currently developing the first full AIR (Adobe Integrated Runtime) analytics that you can easily (very little code, 1 line) use to track what is happening in your AIR application suchs as applicaion installs, errors, application uses, unique users, operating sytems, and much more
This is a unlike any other tracking solution out there currently. Air Analytics is being built from the ground up with special attention to easy of use and efficient in tracking. This is native solution to AIR so no hacks and works around are needed to get the tracking working. Air Analytics is even able to track fully while the application is offline, so you are able to see the whole picture.
This is were we will be posting our developments and news, also we will soon be going into a private beta so stay tuned if you are interested and want to help us test this wicked piece of kit.
/Paul
